From October 31 to November 2, 2023, an international student project of the IBC - Youth Day - was held in St. Petersburg as part of the official business program of the XII St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF). The central theme of this year was "New Energy Reality". The project has been implemented by the International Business Congress since 2015. It is organized by St. Petersburg State University of Economics with the support of Gazprom PJSC and other partner companies. Проект реализуется Международным деловым конгрессом с 2015 года. Организатором выступает Санкт-Петербургский государственный экономический университет при поддержке ПАО «Газпром» и других компаний-партнёров.
This year 32 best students from 10 countries (Russia, Algeria, Belarus, Bolivia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, China, Morocco, Nigeria) had an opportunity to come to St. Petersburg and take part in the Youth Day. The ExpoForum venue hosted meetings with leading energy industry experts, discussed the development of the energy sector, as well as the prospects of implementing innovative solutions in oil and gas companies.
The participants followed an intense 3-day program: team building, master classes at the stands of PIGF exhibitors - Tomsk Polytechnic University, "GID" of PJSC "Gazprom", "Natural Fuel of Russia" (organized by Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo LLC), "Gas Science and Innovation". InfoTecs Group organized a cyber quest where the company's experts simulated an attack on an energy facility and then practiced with students how to repel it.
One of the days of the international student project was fully dedicated to team competitions in the field of strategy development and presentation. Within the framework of the business game "New Energy Reality. An era of artificial intellegence" teams presented their business analysis and prepared a long-term energy development forecast using artificial intelligence technologies. The participants demonstrated critical thinking, forecasting skills and a sense of humor. At the end of the business game, the winning team received prizes and certificates. The event was also attended by representatives of the Global Energy Community, an international community created by Youth Day alumni.
The students had an opportunity to attend the Plenary Session of the SPIGF, the main event of the Gas Forum, where the issues of transformation of the global natural gas market were discussed at a high level. Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, Nikolay Shulginov, Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey, Roman Sklyar, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Xie Jun, Vice President of China National Petroleum Corporation took part at the plenary session of the Forum.
One of the central events was a “no-ties” meeting with the participation of executives from energy and IT companies. Konstantin Romanov (Gazprom Hydrogen), Denis Demin (Gazprom Neft), Satya Widya Yudha (National Council of the Republic of Indonesia) presented an analysis of the current situation on global energy markets; Evgeny Gengrinovich (InfoTecS) and Janko Lonchar (Comita d.o.o.) highlighted the topic of digital transformation in business processes. The speakers answered students' questions about the most in-demand professions in the energy industry and spoke about the wide opportunities for developing personal and professional competencies of young specialists.
On November 1, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, addressed the student audience and congratulated the winners of the Virtual Academy - an educational program of the Youth Day held from July 15 to August 31, 2023, and presented them certificates in an official ceremony.
In nine years, Youth Day has brought together more than 1600 participants from 70 countries. The project continues, so all students interested in energy have a chance to become participants of this notable event in 2024.
